EX Dragon Frontiers takes place on a remote island where delta species Pokémon occur naturally. Almost every Pokémon in the expansion carries the δ mark, making altered types the rule rather than the exception. Dragon-like and powerful species dominate the checklist, including Salamence, Tyranitar, Dragonite, and the legendary beasts, while rugged landscapes and isolated settlements give the set a frontier atmosphere. It was largely adapted from Japan’s Offense and Defense of the Furthest Ends, with modest changes to card selection and rarity distribution.

The Pokémon-ex cards are themselves delta species, producing unusual versions such as Dragonite ex δ, Flygon ex δ, and Salamence ex δ. Charizard ☆ δ and Mew ☆ δ are the major collector attractions and among the most celebrated Gold Stars, combining alternate colouring with the delta species concept. The set also includes a broad range of strong reverse-holographic cards, making complete collections visually impressive. As the climax of the Holon storyline, EX Dragon Frontiers pushes its central mechanic further than any previous release. Its near-total commitment to altered types, powerful roster, and two iconic Gold Stars make it one of the defining expansions of the EX era.
