EX Crystal Guardians is set on a mysterious island where crystal formations influence the Pokémon living nearby. Delta species return, often as dual-type cards, giving familiar Pokémon unexpected combinations and a bright, experimental appearance. Charizard δ, Blastoise δ, and Venusaur δ provide a striking reinterpretation of the original Kanto starters, while the tropical and crystalline artwork creates a setting distinct from the forests around Holon. The expansion closely follows Japan’s Miracle Crystal, although the English checklist is not completely identical.

The expansion marks the final appearance of dual-type delta species and includes Pokémon-ex such as Charizard ex, Celebi ex, Jirachi ex, and Swampert ex. Alakazam ☆ and Celebi ☆ are the Gold Star highlights, both highly prized for their unusual colouring and rarity. The set’s mixture of Kanto nostalgia, Hoenn Pokémon, and the continuing Holon storyline makes it feel both familiar and strange. EX Crystal Guardians stands out as a visually colourful chapter of the delta species era, with a concentrated lineup of iconic Pokémon and a clear island mystery that ties its cards together.
