Leaders' Stadium, released in 1998, introduces Trainer-owned Pokémon as a full expansion concept, concentrating on Brock, Misty, Lt. Surge, and Erika. Their Pokémon reflect each Gym Leader’s preferred types, personality, and battle style, making the cards feel like parts of recognisable character decks.

Erika’s Dragonair, Misty’s Gyarados, and the many Gym-specific Trainer cards are enduring highlights. Collectors often arrange the set by Trainer, which makes its character relationships as important as the individual species. The artwork remains closely associated with the earliest identity of Pokémon collecting. The expansion therefore works well as a self-contained binder project as well as a chapter in the wider history of the game. Its mixture of familiar Pokémon and period-specific presentation makes the full checklist more revealing than a glance at the chase cards alone. It became the primary Japanese counterpart to the English *Gym Heroes*, although numbering and a small number of cards differ.
