The master set counts each of its 80 cards once, in any card. It leaves out 56 First Edition, 56 Unlimited, 24 First Edition Holofoil and 24 Unlimited Holofoil.

Magma VS Aqua: Two Ambitions turns the rivalry between Hoenn’s two villainous organizations into the central theme of an entire expansion. Team Magma’s land-focused Pokémon face Team Aqua’s sea-oriented lineup, with Groudon and Kyogre looming over the conflict. Owned Pokémon return in a new form through names such as Team Magma’s Houndoom and Team Aqua’s Walrein, making allegiance part of each card’s identity. The set also introduces dual-type Pokémon to the game, allowing selected cards to represent two Energy types at once.

MoreLess

Team-based Trainers, hideouts, and supporters create decks that feel tied directly to one faction, while Pokémon-ex versions of Team Magma’s Groudon and Team Aqua’s Kyogre provide natural centrepieces. The artwork frequently shows uniforms, machinery, and environmental confrontation, giving the expansion a narrative consistency rarely seen in the era. Rather than simply adding more Hoenn Pokémon, Magma VS Aqua: Two Ambitions recreates one of the region’s defining storylines and remains an appealing set for collectors who value characters and world-building. The English *EX Team Magma vs Team Aqua* closely follows this release but reorganises some cards, rarities, and numbering.
