XY—Roaring Skies takes the TCG into the air with Rayquaza, flying Pokémon, and a strong Dragon theme. Clouds, high-altitude battles, and ancient sky legends dominate the artwork, while Latios, Latias, Dragonite, and several bird Pokémon support the expansion’s sense of movement. The set also draws from the Delta Episode of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, connecting Rayquaza to Hoenn’s wider mythology. Its primary Japanese counterpart is Emerald Break, with some cards, rarities, and numbering reorganized for the English release.

Mega Rayquaza-EX appears in two forms and provides the collector centrepiece, joined by Mega Latios-EX, Gallade-EX, and a large group of full-art cards. Shaymin-EX became one of the most influential support Pokémon of its era, making the set exceptionally important in competitive play as well as collecting. Full-art Winona and other sky-themed Trainers reinforce the atmosphere. Roaring Skies is remembered for combining a beloved legendary Pokémon with fast, powerful gameplay and an unusually coherent visual direction. Its Rayquaza cards remain the main attraction, but the expansion’s broader flying roster and competitive legacy give it significance far beyond a single chase card.
