XY—Primal Clash recreates the ancient conflict between Groudon and Kyogre, drawing heavily from Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. Volcanic land and stormy seas divide the artwork, while Team Magma, Team Aqua, and many Hoenn Pokémon return in updated forms. The expansion feels like a large-scale elemental confrontation, with the region itself caught between opposing forces. The English release brings together cards from Japan’s Gaia Volcano and Tidal Storm in a single checklist.

Primal Groudon-EX and Primal Kyogre-EX introduce Primal Reversion, a special form of Mega Evolution, while Mega Aggron-EX and Mega Gardevoir-EX add further headline cards. Ancient Traits also debut, giving selected Pokémon additional effects outside their normal attacks and Abilities. Full-art versions of the Primal Pokémon, along with character cards for Archie and Maxie, provide major collector targets. The set includes a large number of cards and a broad Hoenn roster, making it feel both nostalgic and mechanically ambitious.
