Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals turns the returning Trainer’s Pokémon concept into a conflict between heroes, rivals, and Team Rocket. Giovanni and Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex lead the villainous side, while Cynthia’s Garchomp ex, Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex, Steven’s Metagross ex, and other familiar partnerships stand against them. Hideouts, battles, and character encounters give the expansion a stronger narrative tension than the celebratory Journey Together. Its card pool combines Japan’s Heat Wave Arena and Glory of Team Rocket into one larger English expansion.

MoreLess

Team Rocket cards form a connected group with their own Pokémon and Trainers, bringing the organization back as a full set identity rather than a single nostalgic reference. Special illustration rare versions of the major Trainer’s Pokémon provide the primary collector targets, supported by illustration cards that show quieter moments with characters such as Misty and Ethan. The mix of multiple generations allows the set to feel like a crossover event, with well-known Trainers bringing their signature partners into the same conflict. Destined Rivals combines modern character artwork with one of Pokémon’s most enduring villain teams, making it a natural highlight for collectors who value personalities and story as much as individual species.
