The master set counts each of its 103 cards once, in any card. It leaves out 62 First Edition and 41 First Edition Holofoil.

Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary closes the series by reimagining the original Expansion Pack for a new generation. Many cards reproduce the classic 1996 artwork and layout, including Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur, Pikachu, and familiar Trainer cards, but their text, HP, and rules are updated for modern play. New Pokémon-EX, Mega Evolutions, and full-art cards are woven into the checklist, creating a deliberate conversation between the earliest and contemporary TCG. Holographic Charizard is the set’s defining card, prized for how closely it recalls the original while remaining a distinct card. Mega Charizard-EX, Dragonite-EX, and full-art versions of classic characters add modern chase cards beside the recreated vintage designs.

Secret cards include playful or historically unusual choices such as Here Comes Team Rocket! and Exeggutor. Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary is not a simple reprint set: it recreates the feeling of opening early Pokémon packs using the rarity structure of 2016. Its accessible nostalgia made it one of the most widely recognized expansions of the decade. The English *XY—Evolutions* closely follows this release but reorganises some cards, rarities, and numbering.
