Crossing the Ruins... explores the mysteries of Johto, particularly the Ruins of Alph and the strange Unown found there. Multiple Unown cards form a collectible alphabet-themed group, while Pokémon such as Espeon, Umbreon, Tyranitar, Smeargle, and Politoed showcase many of the region’s most distinctive new evolutions. The set’s caves, ruins, and archaeological imagery give it a thoughtful, exploratory mood rather than the broader introduction offered by the first neo expansion. Espeon and Umbreon are the best-known collector highlights, appearing as striking holographic rares that helped establish the pair as long-term favourites.

MoreLess

Tyranitar, Scizor, Houndoom, and the Unown cards add further depth, while the set continues to develop Baby Pokémon and the new Darkness and Metal types. Crossing the Ruins... is less about introducing an entire generation and more about uncovering its unusual corners. Its compact checklist, strong Johto lineup, and coherent ancient-ruins theme make it an appealing expansion to complete and an important early example of a Pokémon set built around atmosphere as much as mechanics. It became the primary Japanese counterpart to the English *Neo Discovery*, although numbering and a small number of cards differ.
