XY—Kalos Starter Set introduces the first Pokémon of the Kalos region in a small, beginner-focused release. Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie lead three simple evolution lines, supported by familiar Pokémon and Trainer cards chosen to teach the basic flow of the game. Rather than appearing as a conventional booster expansion, the cards were distributed primarily through starter decks, making the set a practical introduction to the new generation. Japan received the closely related Beginning Set and Beginning Set for Girls, built around the same three Kalos first-partner half decks.
