Sword & Shield—Battle Styles introduces Single Strike and Rapid Strike cards, two contrasting approaches inspired by the forms of Urshifu. Single Strike emphasizes heavy, decisive attacks, while Rapid Strike favours speed, flexibility, and movement between targets. Special labels identify Pokémon, Trainers, and Energy belonging to each style, allowing complete strategies to be built around a shared battle philosophy. Its card pool combines Japan’s Single Strike Master and Rapid Strike Master into one larger English expansion.

Single Strike Urshifu VMAX and Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX are the main collector and gameplay centrepieces, each appearing in striking alternate-art versions. Empoleon V, Tyranitar V, and several full-art Supporters provide additional highlights, with Tyranitar’s relaxed alternate artwork becoming a particular fan favourite. The set marks the point where alternate-art Pokémon V and VMAX became a major collecting focus, using full scenes to give familiar Pokémon more personality. Battle Styles is important because its theme operates simultaneously as story, visual branding, and deck system. Rather than simply adding more powerful cards, it asks players and collectors to choose between two recognizable schools of combat.
