Scarlet & Violet—Obsidian Flames explores the type-changing possibilities of Terastallization. Charizard ex appears as a Darkness-type Tera Pokémon, while Tyranitar ex becomes Lightning type and Vespiquen ex becomes Psychic type. These unusual identities allow familiar Pokémon to enter new strategies, and the crystalline artwork gives the set a dramatic visual theme built around glowing gems, fire, and altered power. The expansion closely follows Japan’s Ruler of the Black Flame, although the English checklist is not completely identical.

MoreLess

Darkness-type Tera Charizard ex is the central collector card, appearing in several versions including a special illustration rare showing its transformation. Pidgeot ex became another important card in competitive decks, while full-art and gold versions of Charizard extend the chase across multiple rarity levels. Illustration rares for Pokémon such as Ninetales, Cleffa, and Scizor provide quieter artistic highlights beside the headline ex cards. Obsidian Flames is compact compared with many modern expansions, but its concept is clear and memorable: Terastallization can reinvent a Pokémon’s type without changing its recognizable identity. By combining that mechanic with Charizard, the set gives the early Scarlet & Violet era one of its strongest and most accessible centrepieces.
