Gym Challenge completes the Kanto Gym Leader concept begun in Gym Heroes, placing greater emphasis on Blaine, Sabrina, Koga, and Giovanni. Their Pokémon reflect a broad range of battle styles, from Blaine’s powerful Fire types and Koga’s status effects to Sabrina’s Psychic Pokémon and Giovanni’s heavy hitters. Trainer-owned cards and location-based Trainers make the expansion feel like the final stages of a journey through the Kanto League. Its primary Japanese counterpart is Challenge from the Darkness, with some cards, rarities, and numbering reorganized for the English release.
