EX Delta Species introduces Holon, a remote research settlement where unusual electromagnetic conditions have changed the types of local Pokémon. These altered creatures are marked δ, or delta species, and may have types completely different from their traditional identities. A Metal-type Charizard, for example, immediately signals that this expansion operates by its own rules. The scientific setting, towers, and experimental equipment give the set a strong sense of place. The expansion closely follows Japan’s Holon Research Tower, although the English checklist is not completely identical.

MoreLess

Delta species cards appear throughout the checklist rather than as isolated curiosities, allowing the concept to shape both collecting and gameplay. The set also introduces Holon Pokémon and special Energy cards that can function as resources, reflecting the research community’s technology. Metagross ☆, Groudon ☆, and Kyogre ☆ are the major Gold Star highlights, while many familiar Pokémon gain visually striking new forms. EX Delta Species begins a connected storyline that continues across several expansions and is remembered as one of the TCG’s most creative reinterpretations of Pokémon typing, combining a fictional region, experimental mechanics, and highly collectible alternate versions.
